An introduction to Done Right Ceremonies

Hi there, my name's David Russell and I'm an independent wedding celebrant accredited by Humanists UK. That means I've been trained by the wonderful team at Humanist Ceremonies to craft and deliver personal, meaningful and joyful wedding ceremonies throughout the UK, and it's a responsibility I not only take seriously, but also absolutely adore.

If we end up working together I'm going to learn a lot about you, so in the interests of fairness, here's a quick guide to me, so you have an idea of who you're dealing with:

  • I grew up in Dorset but moved to London after university, and I adore both. As such, my status as a country bumpkin / sophisticated urbanite depends largely on who you're talking to

  • Prior to setting up Done Right Ceremonies I worked in the media, researching and writing reports, delivering presentations, and managing customers ... basically all the stuff I do as a wedding celebrant, but a lot more boring!

  • I decided to train as a wedding celebrant after being inspired by the incredible work of my own celebrant in 2023, and although it's hard work I have not regretted that decision once

What's your ceremony style?

Every ceremony is different, as every couple is different, so it's hard to boil this down to a snappy soundbite, but as a bare minimum I strive to make every ceremony joyful, welcoming, inclusive and relaxed.

Whether we have designed the ceremony to be loud, vibrant, colourful and full of laughter, or calm, gentle, warming and romantic, the key word is natural, and my goal is always to ensure that both the couple and the guests feel at ease at all times. I guess the style I'm going for is "don't worry, I've got this"

What can I expect from a Done Right Ceremony?

A fantastic, personal wedding ceremony that your guests will be talking about for years to come, and a fun, stress-free journey getting there!

On top of that though, you can expect guidance from someone who's been on both sides of this table. Having gone through the process myself in 2023, I know how overwhelming it can be to plan a wedding; I know how daunting it can feel to be told anything is possible; I know how nerve-wracking it is to hand over control to a relative stranger; and I know how terrifying it is having to write your own vows!

But that's where Done Right Ceremonies can step in, with expert advice, guidance and suggestions that come from real-life experience of working with couples just like you, turning the terrifying into the exciting, and helping you to create the perfect day filled with love, joy and laughter.

Why Done Right Ceremonies?

I've always been something of a perfectionist, and to put it simply there are just some things in life you should strive to get right the first time. The hope is that you'll only be doing this once, so if you're going to do it, you might as well do it right.

Your wedding should be one of the most memorable days of your life, unbeatable and unrepeatable. Chances are you've put your personal stamp over all the other elements, so why build the day around the same off-the-shelf ceremony your guests have all seen before? Photos will remind you what the day looked like in years to come, but it's the personal touches and special moments that will linger the longest.
